In an MLS NEXT Pro matchday full of rollercoaster games, Orlando City B's 3-2 win over Atlanta United 2 took the cake as the headliner.
OCB was gifted an own-goal in the 29th minute, which is an ideal start in the minds of many, but went down a man in the 42nd which put the cruising start into jeopardy.
It didn't take long for ATL UTD 2 to make the most of the man-advantage. A 45th-minute penalty concession got the visitors all square at halftime. They struck again in the 60th minute thanks to Golden Boot leader Nick Firmino.
But wait, this article is about Orlando City B, right?
That's right. OCB take the Team of the Matchday honor for a valiant comeback that was certainly against the odds. Wilfredo Rivera's game-winner was one of the most shocking goals, regardless of context, you'll see all season.
The magical moment was set up just a minute prior thanks to Christofer Acuńa's precision in a crowded box. A quick turn-and-shoot leveled the match and was the kerosene for a memorable win.
The win places OCB in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings and in the driver's seat to claim a playoff position as we have officially entered the home stretch of the season.Â
It was also a much-needed statement coming off a decisive 6-2 loss to Huntsville City FC in Matchday 16.Â
Rivera, Acuńa, and co. return to action on Sunday, July 23 when they take on Chicago Fire FC II. That match and several others will be available here on MLS NEXT Pro.com, and the remaining matches will be available on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
