Wan Kuzain was at it again with CITY2 as the team from St. Louis traveled to Indiana and took care of business by defeating USL Championship side Indy Eleven 0-2. Kuzain scored the second goal of the match in the 72nd minute to seal the deal for the visitors with a beautiful shot just inside the box that was perfectly placed to beat Indy Eleven goalkeeper Tim Trilk.
John Hackworth's team had taken the lead early in the game thanks to a man-of-the-match Ezra Armstrong left-footed shot inside the box that buzzed past Trilk. The early goal gave STL CITY2 some tranquility, and despite holding only 36 percent possession of the ball according to the broadcast stats, the MLS NEXT Pro squad appeared in control for most of the game.
The victory by CITY2 guarantees that MLS NEXT Pro will have representation in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup, which is when the majority of Major League Soccer clubs will mark their entry into the oldest soccer tournament in the United States.Â
Rochester New York FC, the other MLS NEXT Pro club participating in the U.S. Open Cup, will have their chance to move to the next round when they host Lansdowne Yonkers FC in Upstate New York.
