High Point, NC (September 4, 2026) - Carolina Core FC closed out its final home match of the season with a dramatic 4-2 shootout victory over New England Revolution II after the sides battled to a 2-2 draw in regulation.
The Foxes and New England Revolution II traded attacking spells in the opening minutes, with both sides looking to establish themselves in the final third. Carolina Core FC created several early opportunities, putting multiple shots on target within the opening 15 minutes.
The Carolina Core defense kept New England off the scoreboard for the remainder of the first half as both teams battled for possession and searched for the opening goal. Neither side was able to break through before halftime, sending the match into the break scoreless at 0-0.
The Core continued to apply pressure to the New England back line coming out of halftime and eventually found the breakthrough. Thomas Raimbault made a run down the right side before finding Brice Swinehart, who finished the opportunity to score his first goal of the season and give Carolina Core a 1-0 lead.
New England responded late, leveling the match in the 83rd minute when Marcos Zambrano found the back of the net. Zambrano struck again four minutes later, scoring in the 87th minute to give Revolution II a 2-1 advantage.
The Foxes did not stay down for long. Bodie Ford sent a cross into the box that found Charles Orbaugh, who redirected the ball into the path of Seth Hammond. Hammond finished the opportunity to bring Carolina Core level at 2-2 and send the match toward a penalty shootout.
With the score tied at the end of regulation, the match headed to penalties. The Foxes converted four attempts to earn a 4-2 shootout victory and two points from their final home match of the season.
Carolina Core FC returns to action Saturday, September 12, as the Foxes travel to Sportsplex at Matthews to take on Crown Legacy FC. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
