The U.S. Open Cup, the country's oldest continuous sporting tournament, continues this week into the third round. Two MLS NEXT Pro clubs, Columbus Crew 2 and Tacoma Defiance, remain fighting for the domestic cup.

Despite a slow start to league play in MLS NEXT Pro, where they have picked up only one point after four matches, Columbus Crew 2 are on a roll through the early rounds of the U.S. Open Cup. A 4-1 win over NY Renegades and a 3-0 win over Lexington SC finds Crew 2 facing USL Championship side Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.
Crew 2's Brent Adu-Gyamfi is tied for the scoring lead in the Open Cup with three goals in two games.

On the West Coast, Tacoma Defiance welcomes USL Championship side Oakland Roots into the Open Cup at Starfire Sports Complex. Defiance arrived to Tuesday's Third Round with a 2-1 win after extra time against Spokane Velocity.
Tacoma Defiance forward Osaze De Rosario has enjoyed a great start to the MLS NEXT Pro season, scoring five goals in three games.
