2025 MLS NEXT Pro Matchweek 14 Honors

MW14 Honors

The summer of soccer is in full swing, and a jam-packed MLS NEXT Pro Matchweek 14 slate did not disappoint.

In the Eastern Conference, New York Red Bulls II took control of the Eastern Conference as they knocked Chattanooga FC off their perch at the top for the first time in several weeks. Their heroics provided the biggest moment of the round, earning them this week's Team of the Matchweek honor.

Western Conference leaders Ventura County FC had a two-game Matchweek and can thank striker Luis Müller for goal contributions in both to keep them in charge of the west's power struggle. His three-goal week earns a second all-time Player of the Matchweek honor.

Staying out west, Whitecaps Academy midfielder Yuma Tsuji made a statement with an absolute golazo to help Whitecaps FC 2 stay in the playoff race. Tsuji is the second Whitecaps Academy player to earn the MLS NEXT Rising Star honor this season.

MLS NEXT Pro Team of Matchweek 14: New York Red Bulls II

The biggest win of the weekend, by far, went to New York Red Bulls II.

For starters, they unseated Chattanooga FC at the top of the Eastern Conference table with a decisive 5-2 margin.

A 3-0 lead at halftime had RBNY II on cruise control despite a late two-goal rally from CFC to make things interesting in the second half.

But perhaps the bigger storyline was sending off head coach Ibrahim Sekagya with plenty to smile about before he heads to his promotion with the RBNY first-team setup.

American soccer legend Michael Bradley will take over RBNY II in top form, making for plenty to be excited about for Red Bulls fans in the weeks to come.

Stepping into the Golden Boot race, striker Luis Müller scored in both of Ventura County FC’s Matchweek 14 wins.

His brace from the spot led the way in Sunday’s 2-0 win at MNUFC2 on Sunday, following his goal to open the scoring in a 3-2 win at Portland Timbers2 earlier in the week.

Müller’s three-goal week brings his season tally to seven, adding to a crowded list of emerging 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Golden Boot candidates.

His big week earned a second all-time MLS NEXT Pro Player of the Matchweek honor after his debut with LAFC2 last season.

The 24-year-old joined VCFC over the offseason and is putting together an MVP-caliber season since his crosstown move.

What a way to open your professional account, Yuma Tsuji!

Fresh off a camp with Canada's U-17 squad, the Whitecaps Academy midfielder's first professional goal was an absolute rocket to put the game out of reach in Whitecaps FC 2's 2-0 win over LAFC2 on Thursday.

Tsuji made his eighth appearance of 2025, where he's racked up 672 minutes in his first season as a pro. Could he be an emerging attacking talent that helps WFC2 shore up a 2025 playoff spot?

He represents the second Whitecaps Academy player to earn the weekly rising star honor, joining Rayan Elloumi in Matchweek 12.
